So, I wake up to pee and lookie what I find when I wake up my computer to take a Facebook hit. Yup, as the title suggests (where suggest = to spell out something explicitly), it’s the new The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer!
Shiny, isn’t it?
The Good: Andrew Garfield was a great Peter Parker in the first film, and I’m looking forward to more of that in this installment. Costume, awesome. Emma Stone: I would love her even if she sprouted a penis. We would totally be bros. Also, the action is looking pretty darn sexy. Let’s hope it stays that way come theatrical release. I also am kind of digging the Peter’s discovery of his dad’s work. It’s not something we’ve seen before, and I’m looking forward to it. While the introduction of his parents into the first movie felt little more than trope, that set up will hopefully come to fruition in the sequel. Finally, looks like they switched up the Horner scoring for a Zimmer one. While I usually very much dig Horner’s work, the music in the first Spider-Man felt a little heavy handed at times, like I was being hit over the head with tympani mallet.
The Bad: I am worried a about a couple things. I’m getting flashbacks of Spider-Man 3 with all the baddies walking around. We see Electro, Rhino, and the Osborns so far, and if rumor is true, we’re getting some Vulture action as well. How in the Samhain are we going to set up, and pay off all these villains? There’s a lot to fit into one film, even one that will probably weigh in at the 2-hour mark.
The Weird: Mech-Rhino? I’m not saying I dislike it. It’s definitely a departure from the comics… but maybe a giant, grey rubber suit isn’t the best idea for a live-action movie.
There is clearly a boomerang living in Harry Osborn’s hair.
Don’t see it? Here, let me help you.
