Born and raised in California, Nathan has been a fiend for geeky pop culture for years. ESPECIALLY comic books and movies. Can't get enough. He also likes writing his own comic books (The Shrouded City) and drinking sparkling water. Maybe it shows we've grown as a society that nobody makes fun of him for making comic books... but he does get a lot of s**t for drinking sparkling water. Win some, lose some. Okay!

So here’s the thing… I said I was only maybe gonna sub for Agent Justin like once.  But it turns out… Comic Con messed up all our schedules!  Just turned it upside, slapped it upside the head, and got all… “grabby”… with our schedules.  Needless to say, we needed to get our bearings again.  So in the spirit of cooperation and information I have taken “LOOKING AHEAD” under my bearded wing again.  I shall treat it with love, but with a firm hand if it gets out of control.

Anyways… ON TO THE UPCOMING MOVIES!

What’s It About?  A life crisis causes a woman to head to San Francisco, where she reconnects with her sister.

Nate’s Notes:  Its a Woody Allen movie.  Hmm… The name “Woody Allen” carries such a hit-or-miss quality these days.  Could be a great film.  Funny and dramatic and intelligent.  Definitely neurotic.  The main character seems very unlikeable.  Perhaps too unlikeable.  But then, the main character is being played by Cate Blanchett, and that alone might bring me in to watch this movie.  I’m giving this a Maybe.

What’s It About?  A scientist who has invented a technique to watch people’s memories finds himself in a dangerous situation after he’s tasked with entering a heroin addict’s mind to see whether the man committed murder.

Nate’s Notes:  Trippy!  In a great kind of way.  I like movies like this.  I loved Inception, I liked Trance, and I just might find another great mindbender film in Extracted.  Here’s to hoping…

Ahhhh! Nazi Stilt Monster!

What’s It About?  Toward the end of World War II, Russian soldiers pushing into eastern Germany stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Victor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein’s work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades — a desperate Hitler’s last ghastly ploy to escape defeat.

Nate’s Notes:  This is my kind of crazy.  Russian soldiers versus Nazi Experiments.  This is how you ramp up the zombie movie:  Give them knife hands, propellor chests, or some funky stilt limbs.  Enjoy!

What’s It About?  Four isolated astronauts on board a bio-dome space craft, experience a ghostly intercession after a meteor storm, leading to paranoia, fear and death.

Nate’s Notes:  Hmm… Yeah, I’m in no hurry.  And am I crazy, or did this trailer give away WAY too much of the movie?  This feels more like a SyFy movie.

*SIGH* Yes...
*SIGH* Yes…

DirectorMaggie Carey

What’s It About?  Feeling pressured to become more sexually experienced before she goes to college, Brandy Klark makes a list of things to accomplish before hitting campus in the fall.

Nate’s Notes:  Watch this movie!  Why?  AUBREY PLAZA.  Need more reasons?  Donald Glover.  Even more reasons?  Geez, seriously?  WATCH THE DANG MOVIE.  (Also, Clark Gregg).

What’s It About?  A young Englishman recently released from prison recruits his three best friends to rob the local drug kingpin who is responsible for his incarceration. Can he get revenge and win back his fed-up girlfriend?

Nate’s Notes:  Been a while before I’ve seen a good heist movie with English accents.  The trailer is slick as hell, and the action looks excellent.  And did my eyes decieve me, or was that ol’ Neville Longbottom (Matthew Lewis) as one of the friends?  I’m down for this flick!

What’s It About?  Summoned to Japan by an old acquaintance, Wolverine becomes embroiled in a conflict that forces him to confront his own demons.  And he fights, like, a s**t ton of ninjas.
http://youtu.be/Rh1LdTFkm7I
Nate’s Notes:  Hugh Jackman is magic.  Really.  Like an Australian Wizard set upon this world to be awesome in everything he’s in, no matter what the movie.  Except, he chooses some BLAH f**kin’ movies, man.  He’s an absolutely amazing Wolverine, but the past two movies as Wolverine have been bad news bears.  X-Men 3?  Oh god the mutantity!  X-Men Origins: Wolverine?  Horrible writing, with some really terrible choices.  Though his appearance in X-Men: First Class was absolutely amazing.  Other than that, its been a bad run for the Beserker with a heart of gold/adamantium.  So will The Wolverine finally break the chain?  I’m not sure.  Half this trailer is excellent, while the other half is scaring me a little.  Robot Silver Samurai?  NOT working for me.  Wolverine fighting more ninjas than there are people in the entire state of Wyoming?  HELL TO THE YES.  Will I watch this movie?  Of course!  Hugh Jackman is starring in it!  And did I mention he’s an absolutely amazing Wolverine?

Also, little bit of cool trivia here, this is James Mangold’s SECOND time directing Jackman.  They worked together on Kate & Leopold!  Learning is FUN!

My one concession to my fears of this being a bad movie, is that I won’t be seeing it at midnight.  Man, I hope its good!

Well everybody, that was my second time as sub for this class of upcoming movies that-are-coming-out-tomorrow-ha-ha-whew-awkward-silence-heh!  Thanks for reading, and I will see you next week with my regularly scheduled rantings!
