Born and raised in California, Nathan has been a fiend for geeky pop culture for years. ESPECIALLY comic books and movies. Can't get enough. He also likes writing his own comic books (The Shrouded City) and drinking sparkling water. Maybe it shows we've grown as a society that nobody makes fun of him for making comic books... but he does get a lot of s**t for drinking sparkling water. Win some, lose some. Well dear readers, the new X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer came out today and might I say it looks pretty as all get out.

Okay, now let’s study some freeze frames a la JFK:  Back and to the Left!

The Matrix-Men
The Matrix-Men

Now THAT is some nice apocalyptic future, if I do say so myself.  Crumbling buildings.  Ominous clouds possibly blotting out the sun.  It might look a little too much like The Matrix future, but then, how many devastated city landscapes can you have and they DON’T start looking alike?

Colossus!
Colossus!

Colossus is my favorite X-Man.  Always has been.  Visually I thought he was awesome, and I always loved trying to add my terrible fake Russian accent when I read his dialogue as a kid.  He’s not Russian in the movies, which sucks, but then again, he barely gets any dialogue as is.  In this shot we see him armor up, but do we get to see him in action?

Ding! Ding! FIGHT!
Ding! Ding! FIGHT!

The action in Days of Future Past looks phenomenal so far!  And what better enemy to go balls to the walls crazy action fighting against than ROBOTS?  Sentinels to be exact.  In this shot we got a Sentinel doing the badass crouch landing, Colossus getting ready to do his special “Punching” power, Sunspot in the background roasting some Sentinels, and I think that’s Warpath holding the knife behind Colossus.  I don’t think he’s going to betray anyone, but one must always be wary of the proximity of knives and backs.

Sunspot!
Sunspot!

Okay, I have a tiny slice of beef with Sunspot looking so much like the Human Torch.  Sunspot was more black inner lighting, and fire flickering from the edges.  But then again, I don’t think anyone truly cares.  Except for the Coalition of Sunspot Fandom.  Which you won’t hear very much from, seeing how I just made up that organization literally one sentence ago.

FLAME O- uh... FIRE COMMENCE!
FLAME O- uh… FIRE COMMENCE!

And then Sunspot goes and does this and I am a happy little fanboy.

Iceman!
Iceman!

And where there’s fire, there’s ice.  At least in the X-Men world.  Iceman is now in full control of his powers, sheathed in ice (at least his head).  But wait?  Is that an ICE SLIDE??

Sliding home!
Sliding home!

Hell yes it is!  By this one act alone, X-Men: Days of Future Past has easily proven itself in that it knows how to do fan service right.  ICE SLIDES!  That was missing from every movie since X-Men 2.

Sentinels!
Sentinels!

The Sentinel designs are a little strange and… stick man like.  The future designs, anyways.

1970's Sentinels!
1970’s Sentinels!

Even though they are obscured by the smoke here, the Sentinels from the Past seem much more robotic and angular.  Much more reminiscent of the Sentinels I grew up with.  Though maybe the Future Sentinels are more a combination of Nimrod and the Phallanx?

Does Storm get shived?
Does Storm get shived?

As any trailer will show, there could be plenty of fake outs.  But then again, this Storm is in the Future, and anyone can or will die.  Wolverine even says he watched a lot of friends die.  Storm’s death could be the beginning of the Fall of the (Future) Mutants.

Magneto! Professor X! ...Andy Warhol!
Magneto! Professor X! …Andy Warhol!

I can’t wait for Magneto and Professor X to have to work through their shattered friendship to fix the future.  These two love/hate each other guts.  Such great characters and actors with such rich history.

Oh yeah, and Quicksilver is there.  Meh.  You can’t win them all…  Maybe I should just follow Professor X’s lead…

Chill Out till the movie
Chill Out till the movie.

We’ll just have to wait and see how the movie turns out!
